This season, Delver Agents — a premier ship agency and supplier serving South America’s Southern Cone and Antarctica – enacted an interdepartmental cross-training exercise to foster better teamwork and a deeper understanding of roles between its Invoicing, Operations, and Crewing teams
The initiative saw employees stepping into their colleagues’ roles to gain first-hand experience with their challenges and responsibilities, helping to strengthen collaboration and reinforce mutual respect across the teams.
Learning from Operations
Gerardo, from Invoicing, joined the Operations team on December 18, experiencing port logistics firsthand. He observed the SENESA inspection for Lymantria/Gypsy Moth, the unloading of containers and trucks, and the coordination of passenger departures. He also assisted with customs paperwork and crew transportation for medical appointments.
“This experience was enriching, I not only learned about Operations but also gained insight into shipments and logistics. I hope to see more cross-training opportunities in the future,” said Gerardo.
Crewing and Port Activities
Francisco Demartini, also from Invoicing, was assigned to Le Lyrial and participated in passenger disembarkation, baggage handling, and supply unloading. He witnessed meticulous document control, water sampling by Coasa, and the coordination required for smooth port operations.
“Observing stowage, waste management, and logistics up close gave me a deeper understanding of operational complexities. I truly appreciate this opportunity,” shared Francisco.
Exploring Warehouse Operations
The Crewing team visited the warehouses, where they learned about inventory control, perishable goods management, and the precise logistics required for timely deliveries. They engaged with warehouse staff, witnessing the use of forklifts and large-scale supply handling.
“Seeing this side of the process gave us a new appreciation for logistics and its vital role in seamless vessel operations,” remarked a Crewing team member.
Strengthening Team Synergy
This program proved invaluable in enhancing communication, understanding, and teamwork, bridged the gaps between departments, and reinforced the appreciation of each team’s efforts. The initiative was a tremendous success, setting the stage for future programs that will continue to build a stronger, more cohesive organization.
