Members of Delver Agents–a premier ship agency and supplier serving South America’s Southern Cone and Antarctica–recently met with government officials, local port authorities, and representatives of the International Association of Tour Operators (IATTO) to discuss responsible tourism in Antarctica.
The meeting, held February 21 in the Port of Ushuaia, was attended by Ushuaia Vice Governor Monica Urquiza, Head of the Directorate of Ports Roberto Murcia, President of the Fuegian Institute of Tourism Dante Querciali, members of the IAATO Executive Committee, and Delver General Manager German Manterola.
The assembly gave Antarctic tour operators the opportunity to exchange their visions with local government and express their current operational needs in Ushuaia.

The meeting featured several presentations, including an information exchange on the Port of Ushuaia services and a discussion of interests and policies related to Antarctic tourism. Current projects and successes were also shared, such as the recent extension of the Port of Ushuaia’s pier, which will provide greater operational capabilities for receiving tourist vessels.
The group also discussed current and anticipated reservation figures for the 2024 Antarctic cruise season, underscoring their importance as contributing predictive factors to the region’s economic growth and development. Members emphasized the need for heightened eco-friendly measures in managing the upcoming high-tourism season, however, as the continent is protected by international conventions that require special control of any commercial activity.
