A Special Message from Delver Managing Director Veronica Baldasso

In 2021, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted a resolution proclaiming an International Day for Women in Maritime to be observed on May 18 every year. The day is designed to raise the profile of women in maritime, strengthen the IMO’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime.

This year’s International Maritime Organization’s International Day for Women in Maritime theme is “Women Who Inspire.”

Please read below for a personal message from Delver Agents Managing Director, Veronica Baldasso!

To all my friends and colleagues working in the maritime industry:

International Women in Maritime Day for me means many things, but first and foremost, it underscores the need to recognize the importance of women in the maritime industry and how much they bring into our community.

In 2004, I had the privilege to be one of the first women able to access the port. I had to push very hard to earn my role in vessels operations in a place that had long been a male-dominated environment, and was extremely grateful to the men and women that supported me as I strived to make a name for myself in this industry.

I’m thrilled to see that more women are being accepted into key maritime operational roles and take great pride in nurturing female talent within our company. Nothing compares to the profound happiness I feel when I see our women achieving managerial positions, boldly leading diverse teams to operational success.

I look forward to continuing to include and support women into key positions in the industry so that we can further cultivate growth and diversity in our world!

Sincerely,

-Veronica Baldasso
